Ok, a few definitions:

Speaker
The person or thing that answers your questions. For example, Madame Sarcasmo, or Maine Yankee.
Answer
What the speaker says - what is revealed under the band-aid. For example, the Maine Yankee might say "Yup" if he's in a talkative mood.
Shuffle
Similar to the iPod shuffle, when in this mode, Sarcasmatron automatically selects a new random speaker for you after every answer. You can turn this feature on and off by tapping the multi-colored pretzel icon on the main page, or tapping the "Turn Shuffle On/Off" button on the Picker screen.
Picker
This is the screen that allows you to select a specific speaker. You get there by tapping the "Speakers" button in the top right, or the name of the current speaker, just above the band-aid. On the Picker screen, just spin the wheel to select, and then tap the button in the upper left that says "Sarcasmatron" to go back to getting answers. This page also has some powerful editing (roll-your-own) features, described below.
Editor
This screen allows you to change the name of a speaker. For example, if you wanted to change "Politician" to "Scum Sucking Liar", this is the screen where you'd do it.
List
The screen with all the answers for a speaker.

Ok, here are some things you can do.

Get Answers
Just double-tap or swipe the band-aid image and the next answer to your question will be revealed. Double-tap or swipe again to set up the next answer.
Select a Speaker
Tap the "Speakers" button or the name of the current speaker to bring up the Picker Screen. Roll the wheel to whichever speaker you want, and tap the "Sarcasmatron" button in the upper left to return to the main screen.
Shuffle
Since each answer is chosen randomly - uh, that is by a super-secret highly complex and college-educated algorithm - Shuffle does the same thing, supplying one answer for each of the speakers until all speakers have spoken, then it starts again.
Edit a Speaker - change the name
Tap the Edit button, and an editable text field appears. Here are the rules for editing a speaker name:
  • It cannot be empty.
  • It cannot contain tabs or carriage returns (linefeeds) - these will be stripped out automatically.
  • It cannot be the same as an existing name - if you happen to change "Surfer" to "Dr. Suess", the Save button will be disabled, and you'll have to think of something else.
  • It cannot be longer than 30 characters. We apologize to those that like really long names, but the iPhone is only about 3 inches wide. So names like "Donaudampshiffartsgesellshaftcapitan" and "Junior Deputy Assistant Adjutant General's Accupuncturist" just don't fit.
These rules are enforced automatically - you won't be able to save unless all rules are satisfied.
Add a new Speaker
You can create a new speaker - which will add a new name to the wheel and give whatever answers you supply for it. Tap the Add button, and an editable field appears. The same editing rules apply as for the Editing case, above. When the speaker is added (i.e. when you tap Save), Sarcasmatron adds a new "dummy" answer for you, something like "Answer 1", and does not leave the editor. This gives you a chance to enter new answers.
Add new Answers for a Speaker
When you Add a new speaker, you get a dummy answer for free, just to get you started. Just tap the "Edit Speaker Answers >>" below the editable name field, and you'll see a list of answers. From there you can add, edit and delete answers. Whether the speaker came with Sarcasmatron, or you created it, you can still add answers.
Edit an Answer
From the List screen, just tap on the line of the answer you want to edit, and an editable text area will appear. Edit away to your hearts content, subject to these rules. An answer:
  • Cannot be empty.
  • Cannot be the same as another answer for the current speaker. In other words, Surfer can't have two answers exactly the same, but Surfer and Mary Poppins (not included) could both have an answer of "OMG NO!"
Delete an answer from a Speaker's list
From the List Screen, tap the red icon on the left, and then a Delete button will slide in from the right. You will be prompted "Are you sure?" because there is no un-do facility. (Of course, you can always just add a new answer by typing it in again.) If enough of you buy Sarcasmatrons, un-do will available in a future release. There is only one rule for deleting answers which is automatically enforced by Sarcasmatron: you cannot delete the last answer for a speaker. In other words, every speaker must have at least one answer at all times. If you are trying to get rid of them all, just delete the speaker. See below.
Delete a Speaker
Back on the Picker Screen, if you really don't like a speaker, you can remove them permanently from Sarcasmatron. This will remove the speaker (it will no longer be in the Picker wheel), as well as all of it's answers. You will be prompted with "Are you sure?" because there is no un-do. Of course, you can always just add the speaker back and type in all the answers that you can remember. If you do this by accident, we will be happy to send you the list of answers for any speakers, but you'll still have to type them in.
Factory Reset
This is for when you get hopelessly tangled up, have created all sorts of stuff you don't want, and you just want to bag it and start all over. This feature removes all edits that you have ever made, and resets the speakers and answers to state of a freshly downloaded Sarcasmatron. You will be prompted with "Are you sure?" because there is no un-do for this. If you do this by mistake, your only recourse is to type in whatever of your stuff you can remember.
